Freebie :: Photoshop Shapes // Background/Patterns

Hello friends. Happy Sunday!

I think this weekend I have worked more on the shop then I ever have since it opened. Kinda strange when I have a 2.5 month old in tow {she was my little copilot ;) }.

First I wanna share what new items are listed in the shop-

Three more Nursery prints were added {8x10}. All three are completely customizable.

Just in time for the Holiday season, two instant downloads are available for 5x7 Christmas cards.

Lastly, Gift Tags! Instant download as with the Christmas Cards and the first set of Gift Tags {Simple Silhouettes} are customizable with different color options available!

Now on to the fun stuff.

I have a couple of freebies to give away. Some backgrounds/Patterns and a set of Photoshop Shapes!

These backgrounds/patterns measure 12x12 inches and can be used with just about anything.

1. Download Blue Triangles

2. Download Purple Triangles

3. Download Vintage Triangles

Get in the Kitchen!! .... That's what the husband always tells me ha!.

Kidding!!

These are my original designs. Hand drawn and then I turned them into shapes in PS.

1. Download Kitchen Set Shapes

If you have any problems downloading any of the freebies just let me know I can send the file directly to your email.

Happy Creating :)

Note: All graphics/freebies posted are created by me and not for resale.

Chalk Text Effect

Today's post is a first in a Creative Series I am starting up. I know, call me crazy... with a 2month old how would I be able to do this?! Not to worry, I have my little co-pilot snuggled in the ergo while I blog/create :)

For today's tutorial we are going to create that 'Chalk Text Effect' you might be seeing going around the web-o-sphere and Pinterest.

It's actually quite easy to do. The only real time consuming part is playing around with the brush settings to get the perfect effect.

Here is my starting piece. I opened a basic image of a chalk board up in PS and then used a simple, clean text. For this tutorial I used the font 'Secret Code'.

So here is our background and text open in PS, ready to go.

1. Next we are going to create a new layer after we create our text. {Layer>>New>>Layer>>click OK}

Now that we have created our new layer, we want to adjust our brush settings.

2. Click on the brush icon in the left toolbar and then go to your brush settings {Window>>Brush}, You will now see the brush icons on the right side near the panels.

3. Brush Tip Shape

4. Select from brushes 17, 23, 36, 44 and 60 {these are the chalk brushes}.

5. Adjust the size of the brush to your liking.

6. Click on 'Shape Dynamics'.

7. Adjust the 'Jitterness' to your liking. these are the controls for how 'jittery' you want the chalk to be.

8. Click on 'Dual Brush'.

9. Select from brushes 14, 24, 27, 39, 46 or 59. These brushes add a splatter effect to the chalk.

10. Adjust the controls to your liking.

Go back to your Layers Palette.

11. Highlight your Text Layer and click on the little 'eyeball'. This will hide your layer so you will see your text disappear. Not to worry though, we will get it back.

12. On the same text layer, right click and select 'Create Work Path'.

You will then see your text appear like this.

Go to your tools on the left.

13. Click on the Arrow {Path Selection Tool}.

14. Click the foreground color and select the color you want for your text.

15. Highlight the blank layer in the layers palette.

16. Click anywhere on your document and the Right click and select 'Stroke Path'.

17. Select the Brush from the drop down menu and click OK.

18. Hit Enter on your keyboard to get rid of the work path and you are done!

BEFORE

AFTER

There you have it. It might seem a little time consuming at first but the more you do it, the faster you can create it.

Also keep in mind that the settings you use for one font might not look good on another font. That's why in this tutorial I mention adjust the settings to your liking.

I am also working on a tutorial for creating chalk text in PS Elements, so stay tuned!

Now let's go create some Chalk Art! :)

Shop Grand-Re-opening and Freebie Prints!

Guess whose back!?

I am. Ta-da!

I never really went anywhere but I sure did take a huge break from the shop. I had a good excuse though. Pregnancy, new baby.. you know how it is. Everything to do with the shop and the blog took a back seat and I don't regret one bit of it either.

But the time has come to get back into the swing of things. Even though I still have a very -loves her Mama more then anyone- 2 month old, I felt like I needed to open the shop back up and start things back up with the blog.

I did create some prints while I was pregnant. Their by far my favorite and I was inspired by my little Peanut to create them {and they proudly hang in her Nursery as we speak}. They are completely finished and now listed in the shop.

I also tried my hand at some web graphics. Mainly Etsy Banner sets. I love creating graphics and have always wanted to create some for the shop but never got around to it. Now that I only have one arm available 99.8% of the time ;), it's easier for me to work on the Etsy Banner sets then it is to sketch out some designs {although my sketch books are in need of some major TLC!}.

I think the biggest thing for me is working on promoting. I have a Twitter but that too has taken a back seat these past couple months. I know there are some good sources out there for promoting your business/blog but since I am a Mom first, I will just have to give it a go on my own and take it from there.

So with the 'Grand RE-opening' of the shop I decided to give away two free Autumn prints. I created these a couple years ago and have had them saved in my files for awhile now. One is digital and the other is ink-drawn and then digitally colored in.

Download the Give Thanks Pumpkin 8x10 print here

You might have also noticed a new blog design {c/o myself}. I decided since I was starting everything else up, mine as well start with a new blog set up.

New baby, new beginnings, new shop items, new blog... new everything :)

New Girl in Town

It's been way to long and I am way over do on a blog post. I know it's after 10 o'clock at night but I am taking advantage of the fact that I actually didn't find myself yawning and misting my eyes with water because they felt like sandpaper, at 7:49pm [I know, im getting old, ha!].

There is a reason why I am still up and a reason why I am still very much wide awake. I'm sure since your reading this you have already gotten a few hints as to what those reasons are. I have made some changes to the bloggidy-blog.

As you can see I have a new header. I have been working on this thing since last night. I wanted to make sure the colors and placement were just right on all of the flowers and that the lettering was also, just right. I know, sounds a little anal-ish but when it comes to 'cohesive-ness' [I really don't like that word for some reason] I get particular about spacing, color, depth and font.

Okay, moving on. As you can see I also have added some new pages. 'The Shop' will be dedicated for my Etsy shop and anything and everything 'shop' related. 'Current projects' is where I will have snippets of what I am currently working on. Whether it be painting/art, sewing, crafts, house projects/DIY or anything else my little heart desires that would be considered a 'project'. :-D

New post title font! I know, your just so excited you could pee your pants right now. Well I am excited and im even more excited that after about an hour of HTML and coding, I got the spacing and centering just right.

Note:: Some of you might not see the font I used [which is shown in the above photo]. So if that specific font is not recognized by your computer than you will just see boring ol' Arial font. [booooring!].

Over on the right you can see I have moved my two sidebars onto that one side. You can also see that I have one larger sidebar above the two smaller ones. I am still adding things to my sidebar, so right now it looks a little bare, but one thing I did add was a drop down menu for all of my labeled posts. This way instead of having just a loooooong list of labels in my sidebar, they are now condensed, all nice and neatly, in one drop down bar.

You might have also seen my new mug'. I figured since my blog was getting a fresh new makeover, I mine as well add a new photo of myself, that and the other one was getting a little old.

Of course a blog just isn't a blog without a cool button!

Last but not least.... a new name. New domain name that is. Like with my idea of the photo, I figured I needed a fresh look in the 'address' department also and so I caved and added myself a permanent address on the www and I needed to give my new address some curb appeal so I added that there little flavicon.

So there you have it folks. My new, improved and totally redesigned [sounds like a car commercial huh?] blog. I have had my blog for almost a year and since than I have been really asking myself 'What is my blog about?'. For the longest I thought it was DIY seeing as how we recently bought our first home, however with time constraints, we realized that we actually don't get to DIY as much as we anticipated.... or as I anticipated.

With the redesigning of this blog, the thought of where I was taking this came to me and I realize now that I mainly want my blog to be about creativity. Not necessarily in the form of one specific thing but all aspects of creativity. My house/projects, decor, my art, crafts and maybe even from time to time adding in a little of my adorable little J-man. I basically don't want to make this blog be about one specific thing. If I did than there wouldn't be much for me to blog about, but in the big scheme of things, there is so much for me to blog about :)
