Bedroom updates

It's been awhile since we took a little bedroom walk through {i mean that in the most non-dirtiest way}. Over the past week I did a little sprucing up in there, you know, just to liven things up a bit, seeing as how the master bathroom still isn't done {I ain't ashamed}, the whole room has been left neglected.

So come on in!

Don't let that white 'comforter' fool you. Well if it did then that's awesome, but it's really a think white blanket fit for a twin size bed.

We still have the old comforter and are in desperate need of a new one. If I wasn't so picky and didn't change my mind about a gazillion and one times, we would have a new one already.

I mentioned how the two frames I took out of the end of the hallway I put into the bedroom. They are now over the bed. I printed off two photos I took this past Summer when we went to the zoo of some of the colorful parrots. Although my original photos were just a *bit to bright, so I toned them down a bit and now they fit perfectly!

I came across this neat site that had tons of different textures. They had these watercolor textures and the two colors I chose were some of the colors in my parrot photos. Printed them off, stuck em in some frames and now they hang above the night stand between mine and Josh's closet.

{that site can be found HERE }

Gotta represent!

This post also may or may not contain a few sneak peaks for the shop ;-)

I took some twine and strung it across the large mirror on the dresser. I don't use that mirror to get ready so it was perfect for 'sprucing' up a bit. Some photos that I took out of the frames I clipped to the twine with clothes pins along with a few other things with color and that make me happy.

You can buy a large pack of clothes pins at the dollar store and the twine at any craft store. Heck the dollar store might even sell it!

Happy, happy, joy, joy.... minus the few missing months of magazines... hmmm....

I know using a 'tv tray' as a 'night stand' is kinda ghetto but hey, it works. Im on the hunt for something small to fit into this small spot between my side of the bed and the opening to the bathroom. For now my ghettofabulous tv tray holds my books quite well.

And even holds my pretty seashells from our trips to the beach :0)

Dusty old clock = not cool.

Love this little chair :0)

And that my friends concludes the tour of the master bedroom. There are still some things that need to be done. New duvet, some new pillows {I got ghetto again and stole some from the couch in the living room hehe}, some darker print curtains that will block out light when needed, a small little end table to replace the tv tray {lol}... but other then that nothing really major needs to be done. Obviously the master bathroom isn't no where near finished so we will save that tour for a later date.

I hope you all have a super fantastic awesome weekend!

Wear your inspiration

Do you ever just browse through home decor magazines or click through blog after blog to gain any kind of inspiration for decor in your own home? Well of course you do... we all do. Not only do I browse to gain inspiration for the rooms in my home, but I also just overall enjoy ooh-ing and ahh-ing over other peoples digs.

But one thing that has really caught my eye, as far as inspiration is concerned, is the very textiles in my own home. -Clothing in particular.

As you know, before we started demo-ing our master bathroom, I had been slowly working on our Master Bedroom. But because of the recent changes coming with the master bath, the decor and overall design of the bedroom has been put on hold [mainly because I don't want to go and buy all these nice new things, only for them to become dusty, dirty or the chance of them becoming damaged from walking in and out on a constant basis when re-doing the bathroom]. However that has not stopped me from gathering inspiration for not only the bathroom, but the bedroom and the entire space as a whole.

I guess I like to plan ahead a bit [and it's fun :-P ] and knowing the colors and design I am going for, will make it easier when starting the whole [final] process of bringing the rooms together.

Anyways enough of the babble... now on to the fun part [Pictures!] and of course the main point of this post. -Color inspiration.

See this here is my most favorite coat. It's my 'HERE I AM' Peacoat. Everywhere I go people ask where I got the coat and how bright and 'fun' it is. Well one day I was in the bedroom folding laundry and happened to be looking ever so gazingly at my closet. I was in some sort of daze, staring at this coat [it's that powerful]. Than it hit me... I put two and two together. Wall color + Peacoat = Awesomness.

Our wall color is Valspar - Stone Partition and my coat is well... pretty self explanatory - yellow. I think that may be another reason why I am on this weird obsessed with all things yellow, kick. And it just so happened that this shade of yellow goes ever so graciously with Stone Partition.

So with the help of my coat [of all things...] I have come up with two mood boards for not only the bedroom, but also the bathroom.

First the bedroom. I have chosen a white comforter/duvet. I plan on adding pops of color with throw pillows. Mainly in shades of blue, gray, yellow and little bits greens and reds. I had originally bought this lamp, seen in this post however after combining all the colors I think some type of stacked crystal lamp will look better.

For the bathroom I wanted to bring in some of the same color scheme as in the bedroom [since they flow together]. You might remember my original tile scheme ideas in this post where I talked about either adding some marble tile with the white subway tile or some type of glass tile border with the white subway tile. However after some more thought, more research and of course bringing these colors together, I have decided to use a light gray glass tile for the floor of the shower and leaving the wall to ceiling in the white subway tile.

So there is the entire inspiration and plan for the Master bedroom and Master bathroom. All thanks to my lovely little peacoat. Thank you peacoat. Not only do you keep me warm but you help me decide on co-ordinating colors!

Oh and just to show you that I am real...

I know... I really do need to start wearing my hair down more...

So... Thoughts? Should I add in anymore colors? Should I buy another peacoat to help me in deciding some colors for the rest of the house? Ha!

Evolutions of a Master Bedroom

So you might have wondered what's been going on with the 'Master Bedroom' makeover [because I know you have been nothing but an insomniac, clicking the refresh button to my blog all night long just to see what the deal is............... Ya I didn't think so either ha!]. -Anyways, it's coming along nicely. Well the paint anyways because well, the paint is DONE

...and that's about the only thing that is done  ::hides in corner::

We headed out to Lowe's the weekend before last to check out some of their paint selections [Valspar in the Housssse]. Oddly enough the whole ordeal went a lot faster than we had anticipated. We knew the main color we wanted [Gray tone] and we just went with it. The outcome?

Valspars 'Stone Partition'. It had the Gray that I was looking for and a very light touch of 'Blue hue' that Josh was looking for. It wasn't to light to where you wouldn't even be able to see what color it was on the wall, yet it isn't to dark to where it would feel like a hollow cave.

Just a quick re-cap of the 'Before'-

And now the 'After' with Stone Partition-

To me the color is very sophisticated and 'mature' [ya, you like them adjectives don't ya]

It's a color that will fit both of us. It's not to overly girly and so romantic that it will scare Josh [away] from the bedroom, yet not to masculine to where I will feel like I'm in some bachelor pad bedroom. It's neutral, calm with a small side of fun and a dash of romance.

As for new bedding? We have not bought any yet, however I have made the decision to go with a WHITE cover, accented with pops of color in the form of small pillows. After seeing the color up on the walls in it's entirety in the whole room, a white duvet only makes sense and seems like the best, overall choice to go with the space, and especially since our bedroom is not exactly [huge], the white will balance the color of the walls out and make the room not seem so cramped, busy and small.

I did however buy a lamp.

I fell in love with the shape. It's funky. And I like funky.

And white. And shiny.

And only $14.99 buckerooooos!

So if you have one of these, not to be confused with one of those, than I would highly recommend taking a ride over there and checking out their stash of goodies. It seems like within the 2-3 weeks it had been since the last time I was in there, they stacked their shelves with all kinds of new stuff. Like my new lamp :)

So what do you think? Do you think the white duvet/comforter will work best with the wall color?

beginnings of a Master Bedroom

Our Master Bedroom is pretty basic right now. It's been neglected ever since we moved in, even though it should have been towards the top of the list. A Master Bedroom should be a relaxing place right? A place for the Hubs' and I to retire at the end of a long hard day and just relax and enjoy each others company -NOT wrap ourselves up in some ugly-worn out patterned comforter because we all know their ain't nothin sexy going on with that.

Here is the room, as it was empty. Right before we closed on the house.

Pretty basic. It definitely has some good bones, texture and character. I will admit, the bedroom is a LOT smaller than our last place but I fell in love with the house so much that the downsize of the bedroom didn't bother me.

The only downside to having a smaller bedroom is that we really have no other options for furniture placement other than what you see here. The cable for the TV is located/mounted in the wall right BEHIND the TV, so if we wanted to place the bed on that wall between the two windows we would need to do some extra work to relocate the cable to the opposite wall... Which in the end isn't really worth it.

I'm excited that we are able to even have a wall mount TV, especially since our TV was already a flat screen wall mount [type] to begin with [it also has a mount that attaches to it so if we didn't have a wall mount hook-up we could easily place the TV on a table of some sort... like in our last place].

Although the TV in my [humble] opinion would have looked better on the wall that the bed is up against that way the bed could be between the two windows and we could have two bedside tables on either side of the bed, where as the location it's in now we don't have that option. Booo.

So in light of all things Master Bedroom, Ive whipped up some inspiration and ideas for what I want this space to focus on and I also have a question/poll for you fab-tabulous readers out there :)

I am really liking the idea of painting the walls Gray. There's just something 'mysterious' and 'romatic' about gray walls. As silly as that sounds... but hey, better than the unattractive look and feel of a sloppy bed comforter right?

Now this is where I need your input. With the paint color and the bit of inspiration I showed you, which of the following do YOU like best?

Note: Because sometimes I can be a complete ding-dong... Number 5 is missing from the list below. I will have to dig through my files to find it and post it up.... that is when im back at my 'home' computer :)

 Home Kissing Pleat Comforter Set

American Century Home - Erika Duvet Set

 Thomas O'Brien Modern Khaki Duvet

Springmaid Leandra Sea Mist Comforter Set

Thomas O'Brien Pale Sky Comforter Set

Out of the countless and what seemed endless search through comforters and Duvets... those are the 6 that I really like, thus far. I really like light, white or neutral colors. I try to stay away from bright and super busy patterns... Although I still like pattern but the blue, above, is probably the brightest I would go.

So there you have it. My ideas in a 'nutshell'... or should I say BLOGshell... haha... get it... BLOGshell.. muahaha ::snort:: Sorry. Ive been looking at to many patterns, pictures of bedrooms and different shades of the color Gray :)

Thoughts? Love it? Hate it? Ideas?
